A: Ibex is CAD/CAM software.  That means it is both design and manufacturing software.  It currently offers a full set of 2D design tools, along with 2D and 2.5D toolpath creation and output.

A: Ibex can be subscribed to for $60 per month, or $660 per year.  Permanent licenses are available for $3100 with an optional maintenance plan, please contact support for more information.

A: You can purchase permanent licenses of Ibex Production for $3,100.  Permanent licenses include one year of free updates from the time of purchase. 

A: Ibex was created to work with CNC machines.  This includes CNC routers, plasma, laser, and waterjet cutters.

A: We have post processors, also called drivers, developed for many different machines.  If we don’t have a driver already developed for your machine, we are committed to creating one that meets your needs.

A: We are in the Denver, Colorado (USA) metro area.

A: Ibex is the most recent offering from Scalar Tools, Inc.  Although our company is relatively young, our team has been successfully developing CAD/CAM software for the industry for more than 20 years.

A: We are currently in the process of implementing 3D design and toolpathing tools that we are very excited about.  We have always been completely fascinated with the things you can accomplish with a 3-axis router and we have some fun and creative 3D tools on the way.

A: Yes. Ibex offers our AutoCut tool that can help you process layered DXF and DWG data that may come from many different sources.  If you are routinely processing jobs that involve similar machining operations, AutoCut can help you automate the creation of toolpaths, nesting, and output.

A: The short answer is yes.  The drawing tasks you perform in Ibex are done with a precision that is typically only limited by the ability of “double precision” numbers to handle calculations. 

A: Units are defined for drawings based on a Preference that can be set.  Typically, users will work in either inches or millimeters for most of their work.  

A: All subscription plans come with a 14 day free trial. 

A: We do not offer a free version of Ibex.

A: Ibex is licensed for use on one computer at a time.  We do offer the ability for a license to be moved between computers that a user.  For example, a user may wish to have Ibex available to use at work, and then also have the ability to use that license for doing work at home.  This is an allowable use for a single license.

A: Ibex is designed to run with the Windows® operating system.

A: Ibex includes support for learning and using its features within the application in the form of a context-sensitive help flyout that offers information based on the tool being used.  In addition, Ibex also contains links to instructional videos that explain the use of many of the Ibex functions.  A complete knowledge base can be found in the Ibex Knowledge Base, support tickets can be created in the Ibex Help Center, and general support can be reached at [email protected]

A: Ibex dealers and distributors have easy access to phone and/or online assistance from our support staff.  For end users, we encourage you to utilize the in-application help and videos as well as the Ibex Knowledge Base to answer most questions.  If this is not adequate, the next best way to reach us is via the Ibex Help Desk on the support page.  Our policy is to respond to support questions from the help desk within 24 hours.

A: We very much enjoy the opportunity to work with end users in the context of workshops.  We have always felt that we benefit by working directly with users as much as they do.  As soon as it is practical we plan to offer workshops. We will most likely offer online workshops and webinars first and then offer the chance for an in-person workshop.

A: We do not currently have the resources to offer on-site training.

A: The save and print dialogs are Windows dialogs, and are themed based on your system settings.  To change your system settings go to Windows > Personalization > Colors to change the themes for all Windows dialogs.

A: Yes, Ibex can run using Parallels on a Mac.  We cannot make any guarantees based on older versions of Parallels, but will try to make sure Ibex runs on the latest version of Parallels and Windows.
